Astilbe Chinensis ‘Mighty Pip’ Zones 38
'Mighty Pip' is exceptionally large, reaching up to 4 feet tall, and it also quite hardy and robust: 'Mighty Pip' is both more cold tolerant and more heat tolerant than other Astilbe. It is also more tolerant of varying soil types, and particularly resistant to deer and other garden nibblers. The blooms come on in early- to midsummer, adding a gorgeous salmon pink accent to any shady border or sheltered bed. The massed effect is stunning. The fragrant blooms even make great dried flowers!
Chinensis astilbe (A. chinensis) is native over a wide swath from eastern Russia, through Korea and Japan to the mountains of southwestern China. Of the astilbes, it is probably the best adapted to average garden conditions.
