This cultivar emerges with pink foliage in the spring. Color changes to red and green during summer. Come fall, foliage takes on an orange-brown color. Leaves are peitte and deeply divided, extending from a dense branching structure. Young Johnnie's Pink Japanese maples have vigorous growth, yet remain small at maturity.
Unusual and attractive semiglossy, bronze-red hawthornlike small leaves them turn bronze-green in summer. It is 5 lobed with the center lobe larger and longer than the other leaf lobes. Forms a round shrub.
